KeyGene is based in Wageningen, the Netherlands; Rockville, MD, USA; and Hyderabad, India. Our staff of close to 150 professionals originates from over 15 countries.

Our History

KeyGene was founded in 1989 by several Dutch seed companies. Their goal was to work together to increase the efficiency of their molecular genetic research programs and to improve their crop breeding efforts. KeyGene is currently owned by four strategic shareholders active in the field of vegetable breeding: Enza Zaden, Rijk Zwaan, Limagrain Vegetable Seeds, and Takii.
